Frequent Classroom Problems

Often times there are very simple solutions to classroom technology problems that arise when you are conducting a lesson. These distractions should not take away from class time, so here are some common problems and solutions to apply should they occur.

The Audio is Missing

When showing media like a DVD, VHS or online movie and there is no sound but you can see it here is what to do. In almost every case the amp is turned off. In Kauke specifically, the amp is the unit on the lower shelf in the equipment rack. There should be a blue light in the center of the amp, if not press the button in the center of the amp and the sound will return.

In the case of laptop audio, always make sure the small audio cable is plugged into the headphone jack. If the tiny speakers on the laptop are making noise this is a dead giveaway, they should not make any sound if the conncetions are correct.

No Image from a PC

When hooking up a PC to a data projector (podium, wall plate etc…) it is often necessary to tell the PC to send the image to the screen.  Many times people have the projector turned on, they have selected computer, but still a blank screen.  Here is what to do…hold down the function key at the bottom of the keyboard (Fn) and press F8.  On some PC’s it may be F5, just look for CRT/LCD or a little picture of a monitor on the F key that is they one.  After pressing this key, while holding Fn at the bottom they image will appear.  It’s called a “funciton F8.”
